“I take complete responsibility I should not have asked her to take any drugs..” These were the six memorable words spoken by Bobby in the Lok Sabha, on Tuesday, in response to Union Finance MinisterPranab Mukherjee’s statement that his wife, a doctor, took medicines from a hospital where “she had undergone an angioplasty.”
Bobby then went on to outline the government’s new scheme for providing Rs 50,000 compensation to people who have been affected by the use of these drugs.
He also told how he was offered a bribe of Rs 10 crore by a “very senior” person in the Government of India.
Bobby was responding to a question about how the police in Uttar Pradesh failed to respond to his complaint in 2009 that illicit drugs were used in the hospital where his wife underwent an angioplasty, and whether the incident was related to the 22-day detention of Sonia Gandhi.
The incident took place on May 12, 2010 when the former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi was a guest of honour at her residence.
Bobby had approached the IPS officer in the UP government alleging that the late Shri Krishna De, husband of Sonia Gandhi, had asked a GP in the hospital where his wife underwent the angioplasty to give her sedatives.
Bobby had filed a complaint after several people, including the late Dr Shyam Deo, were arrested and the home minister had given the “stop to Operation Black.”
Pranab said that the police had asked the GP to give Sonia sedatives but he refused.
“This is a very serious thing to say. It is not correct,” Bobby had said and asserted that he had found it “very shocking.”
Bobby’s parents had made the complaint to the then Director General of Police (DGP), who told him that it was a “personal matter” of Mrs Gandhi and her family.
Pranab further said that when the doctor was taken into custody, he had complained about being locked up by the police. “I have seen that complaint.
I am aware that he also had a complaint about being locked up. He was a senior and a doctor. If he was not a senior he could not have faced such lock-up,” said Pranab.
